A New Experience in Analyzing Data: ArcGIS

I used ArcGIS to create a map that shows colleges in the US founded prior to 1848 (with the exception of Carleton College), then added data to display railroad tracks from 1840, 1845, and 1850. Next, I added a layer that indicates the largest cities in the US by population in 1840 (colored orbes). Finally, I used an analytics feature of ArcGIS to display college hot-spots (white squares).

It is interesting to note that there exists noticeable correlation between areas of high population, high density of railroad tracks, and high density of colleges.
